The NSPH was founded by Vicki and Neil Watson in 1989 as a support organization for therapists who had completed the hypnotherapy training course facilitated by them at the original Twa Acres Clinical Hypnotherapy Training Centre, Blairgowrie.

It has since developed into an independent society, administered by an Advisory Council drawn from the membership which deals with insurance, advertising and promotion, coordination of post graduate training and disciplinary matters.

All NSPH members must abide by the Code of Conduct of the Society and any member found to be in breach of the Code will face disciplinary action.

Members who are practicing hypnotherapy are obliged to carry Professional Indemnity & public Liability Insurance with the option to incorporate up to several additional therapies in one policy.

Members meet regularly to discuss matters relative to their practice and visiting lecturers are invited to speak on disciplines that have some bearing on the practise of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

A tri-annual Journal is published and distributed to all members which incorporates such topics as case studies, scripts, members news, articles and training news relative to continued personal development.

The NSPH has members all over the UK and many countries abroad drawn from a wide variety of professions and walks of life including, surgeons, doctors, pharmacists, psychologists, chiropodists, radiologists, dentists, director of nursing services, teachers, nurses, housewives, social workers, health visitors, farmers, policemen, prison officers, salesmen, counselors, firemen, paratroopers, postal workers, biologists, care officers, management consultants, writers, spiritual healers, reiki masters, aromatherapists, reflexologists, IT & computer consultants etc.

There are also a number of members who have retired from their previous profession and on completion of the clinical hypnotherapy training have gone on to enjoy the fruits of a second profession.

For the benefit and guidance of newly qualified therapists, NSPH approved training centres, in conjunction with the NSPH, have established a mentor support system for the first six months in practice.

This scheme is in addition to a ‘help line’ manned by experienced therapists around the clock and is available to all members.
